Dermal Piercing 

A dermal piercing, also known as a single-point or microdermal piercing, is a unique form of body modification where an anchor or base is implanted beneath the skin, and the decorative jewelry sits above the surface.

The piercer will quickly puncture the skin with a needle or skin punch to create an empty space (or “pocket") where the metal will sit. Then, the anchor of the jewelry is inserted into the small opening by the piercer—either by hand or with a small pair of forceps—until it's completely under the skin's surface.

Proper care is essential for healing a dermal piercing. Here are some general aftercare guidelines:
1. Avoid sleeping on the side of the new piercing to prevent unnecessary pressure.
2. Minimize touching the piercing, especially with unwashed hands, to prevent the introduction of bacteria.
3. Use a saline solution to clean the piercing site once a day.
4. Keep your hair away from the piercing, and be cautious with clothing that might snag on the jewelry.
5. Avoid removing the jewelry during the initial healing period, which can vary but typically lasts for 6-9 months.
6. Refrain from swimming in pools, hot tubs, or other bodies of water until the piercing is fully healed.
7. Consult with your piecer if you notice any bump, irritation, infection or any feeling of deep discomfort. Follow up as needed.

The healing time for dermal piercing can vary, but typically ranges from a few weeks to few months. The initial healing, where the surface of the piercing closes, often occurs within 2-4 weeks. During this time its essential to follow aftercare instruction diligently. Full healing process may take 6-9 months or even longer. Remember that everyone's body heals differently, and it's crucial to be patient and attentive to the healing process. Safe metals for skin includes solid gold, titanium and some stainless steel. Although for initial piercing, we highly recommend wearing Titanium Grade jewelry that promote safe and smooth healing and minimize the risk of complications.
