Once the hole has been made, they may use forceps to hold the area of skin taut while they insert the jewelry.

Proper care is essential for healing a belly piercing. Here are some general aftercare guidelines:
1. Avoid sleeping on the side of the new piercing to prevent unnecessary pressure.
2. Minimize touching the piercing, especially with unwashed hands, to prevent the introduction of bacteria.
3. Use a saline solution to clean the piercing site once a day.
4. Keep your hair away from the piercing, and be cautious with clothing that might snag on the jewelry.
5. Avoid removing the jewelry during the initial healing period, which can vary but typically lasts for 6-9 months.
6. Refrain from swimming in pools, hot tubs, or other bodies of water until the piercing is fully healed.
7. Consult with your piecer if you notice any bump, irritation, infection or any feeling of deep discomfort. Follow up as needed.

A belly piercing, or navel piercing typically takes about 6-9 months to fully heal. However, individual healing times can vary based on factors such as your overall health, how well you follow aftercare instructions, and your body's response to the piercing. If you experienced prolonged redness, swelling or unusual discharge, it's advisable to immediately consult your piercer.
